The main committees of council are:

District Development - Deals with the development, including tourism and promotion, of  Central Otago.

Planning and Environment - Deals with all statutory regulatory matters such as building consents and liquor licensing.

Operations - Deals with matters such as roading, water, wastewater, public toilets, aerodromes, civil defence and rural fire. 

The other Committees and Sub-committees are set up to deal with specific issues. For example, the Joint Library Committee deals with matters relating to library services only.
