Central Otago District Council administers over 700 hectares of reserve land throughout the district, including sports fields, neighbourhood parks, town gardens and other open spaces.

Alexandra

Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park is situated in the centre of Alexandra and incorporates a comprehensive childrens playground, community tennis courts, public toilets, the
Glad McArthur Gardens and Central Stories (the Alexandra Museum and Cultural Centre).

Pioneer Park is the major outdoor events venue for Central Otago, such as the annual circus and the Blossom Festival.

Molyneux Park

Molyneux Park is situated at the north entrance of Alexandra and is the district's premier sports ground for athletics, cricket, rugby, softball and soccer. The park has a wide range of facilities including the Molyneux Aquatic Centre, a children’s playground, Ice Inline Sports Complex (ice rink), the Fulton Hogan Bike and Skateboard Park, netball courts and tennis courts.  Molyneux Park is also is where the Molyneux Stadium is located as well as the Alexandra Bowling and Squash Clubs.

Molyneux Park is also the premium sports ground for Central Otago with the nationally recognised sports arena.

The Molyneux Park Trust manages the sports grounds, the Bike and Skate Park and the sports arena. Any enquires on use and bookings should be made directly to the trust:

Lanes Dam

Lanes Dam is situated on Bridge Hill, it was originally a reservoir to provide water for the gold dredges of the Golden Beach claim below the dam. Lanes Dam and Blackmore Park, which lies adjacent, have significant landscape features including, schist outcrops making it a popular picnic spot and a place for wedding ceremonies (receptions prohibited).

Cromwell

Cromwell is well endowed with reserve land having benefited from redevelopment associated with the building of the Clyde Dam in the 1970s and 80s. One of Cromwell’s major assets is its extensive greenways network that link different parts of town

Alpha Street Recreation Ground

Alpha Street Recreation Ground is situated on Alpha Street and lies adjacent to Lake Dunstan.  The recreation ground has 4 sports fields, a pavilion, changing facilities, children’s playground and public toilets.

Anderson Park

Anderson Park is situated near the centre of Cromwell on Barry Avenue is Cromwell’s main recreation area. It has a range of facilities including a children’s playground, public rose gardens, 2 sports fields, community tennis and netball courts, swim centre and an artificial hockey turf (managed by the Central Otago Sports Turf Trust).  The Cromwell Sports Club has its own facility which is located on Anderson Park adjacent to the sports fields.

Enquiries relating to the Cromwell Swim Centre should be made by contacting, or dropping into the swim centre, ph 03 445 0919.

Enquiries and bookings for the Cromwell Sports Club’s facility should be made to the Club’s caretakers – Paula and Jason Clark, 19 Hawksburn Rd, RD Cromwell, ph 03 445 0142.

Enquiries and bookings for the artificial hockey turf should be made to Helen Scoles, 7 Kerry Court, Cromwell, ph 03 445 0116.

Cromwell Skateboard Park

Cromwell Skateboard Park and half basketball court are located adjacent to the Fruit Sculpture on Murray Terrace.  The skateboard park is a popular facility for the younger generation.

 

Clyde

Clyde Greenway links one end of Clyde to the other and follows the path of the old Dunedin to Cromwell railway line. The original railway station is being leased by a local group and can be accessed off Fraser Street.

Clyde Domain is situated adjacent to Sunderland Street and is Clyde’s main recreation ground. It has a full sized playing field, a pavilion with changing facilities, an outdoor swimming pool and a camping ground.  Adjacent to the domain is the Dunstan Golf Club and the Clyde Bowling Club facilities.

Omakau

Omakau Domain is situated at the Alexandra end of Omakau and is the main recreation ground for Omakau. The domain incorporates a full sized playing field, pavilion with changing rooms, a children’s playground, camping ground and three artificial turf surfaced tennis courts which also act as a 1/2 court for hockey.

Roxburgh

Roxburgh Domain and Show Grounds are situated at the southern end of town and incorporate a full size rugby playing field and a pavilion with changing facilities. The domain ground is used for events such as the Roxburgh A&P Show.  Adjacent to the domain is the Roxburgh Golf Course.

King George II Park is situated at the southern end of town is the main neighbourhood park for Roxburgh. The park is a popular stop off point for travellers on their way to and from Dunedin and Queenstown.  It incorporates a children's playground, public toilets and a BBQ area.

Maniototo

Maniototo Park can be found off Pery Street, Ranfurly.  Maniototo Park is the main recreation ground for the Maniototo area. The grounds currently cater for rugby and cricket but have the potential to cater for many more sports.  It also the site for the Agriculture and Pastoral Annual Show, with sheep yards, and the Maniototo Pony Club has an equestrian arena at the Tyrone St end of the ground.  There are three tennis courts to the rear of the Maniototo Park Stadium.

Breakages

Naseby Swimming Dam situated at the top of Swimming Dam Road is a very popular swimming hole over summer, with changing rooms and toilets.  The facility block is only open for use during the summer season.

Naseby Recreation Ground is situated on Derwent St near the centre of the township.  The ground is a popular open space for locals and visitors alike.  The surrounding trees are believed to be planted by miners from a bygone era.

The ground incorporates a cricket pitch, playing field an adventure playground and three community tennis courts.  The public toilets are situated on the Derwent St side of the ground.

Oturehua Domain has a grass cricket pitch, two tennis courts and a playground.  The facility block has a kitchen, changing rooms and toilets operational during summer months.

Patearoa Domain is situated at the entrance of Patearoa.  The domain has a full size playing field and pavilion with changing facilities. The Patearoa Hall is situated on the domain.

The domain is managed by the Patearoa Recreation Reserve Committee. The committee is currently investigating the feasibility of setting up a campground in the domain. Any enquires or bookings in regard to the Patearoa Domain should be made directly to the committee:

Waipiata Domain is situated on Waipiata Domain Road.  The domain has a sports ground, two tennis courts and a pavilion which has kitchen and toilet facilities.  The domain is a lovely peaceful setting to enjoy a family picnic, a game of cricket or just to soak up the fantastic summer sun.

Further down the Waipiata Domain Road is the Waipiata Bowling Club, it has one green and the clubroom has a kitchen and toilet facilities.

The domain and bowling club are managed by the Taieri Lake Recreation Reserve Committee – a group of committed locals who spend many voluntary hours looking after the domain, bowling green, tennis courts and facilities.
