Activity in this area is mandated by the Central Otago District Council Long Term Plan 2015 – 2025​​ (LTP), which signals that a vibrant economy will contribute to the prosperity and well-being of the community.

The Council’s effort in this area is resourced with one full time staff member (see contact details below). It is guided by the Central Otago Economic and Business Development Strategy, and the shared set of values on which the Central Otago regional identity is based.​​ Council's focus is ensuring the infrastructure and operating environment is in place that business needs to succeed. ​

At an individual business level the Council provides a range of support and advice that includes a Business Directory, advice on starting and doing business in Central Otago​, employment opportunities, and training opportunities.​ See the Do​ Business Here tab on the Central Otago NZ website for more information.​
