Council has a strong interest in economic and business development within the district. Activity in this area is mandated by the Central Otago District Council Long Term Plan 2015 – 2025 (LTP), which outlines how planning outcomes are to be achieved. The LTP signals the importance of establishing a productive economy for the community which will aid in the economic growth of the district.
The Council’s effort in this area is resourced with one full time staff member. It is guided by the Central Otago Economic and Business Development Strategy, a refreshed version of which covering the period 2013 to 2016 was adopted by Council in September 2013, and the shared set of values on which the Central Otago regional identity brand is based.
At an individual business level the Council provides a range of support and advice that includes a Business Directory, advice on starting and doing business in Central Otago, employment opportunities, and training opportunities.
