The Central Otago District Council is committed to working with industry at all levels to improve health and safety practices and culture. Should you or your business currently work for Council or will potentially be working on or connecting to Council assets this Council commitment will affect you.
SiteWise is a prequalification system that grades a contractor's health and safety capability and publishes that grade in a database that can be viewed by main contractors and principal organisations like Council.
From 1 July 2016 all contractors working for Council must have an acceptable SiteWise rating. This rating will form a significant part of Council's contractor selection process.
Council believes its participation in SiteWise will be a positive step towards the goal of Zero Harm. Council also has a legal responsibility to ensure that contractors working for or on Council assets and/or supplying products or services, have effective health and safety systems to prevent harm to people and the environment or damage to property.
Currently Council seek this information during the contract tender process, when contractors are expected to provide recent evidence of health and safety practices.
In order to improve this process, we are implementing SiteWise Health and Safety prequalification for all contractors. Council will use SiteWise to make informed contractor selections, to ensure that health and safety consideration, at all stages (design through to implementation) of a project /contract are given significant weight.
Once assessed through SiteWise, you will only need to provide documented evidence of your health and safety practices on an annual basis to SiteWise. Any onsite audits will continue to be completed by Council officers.
Should you already be registered and assessed by SiteWise there is no need to do anything further other than to advise Council of your current status.
