Council wishes to advise Molyneux Aquatic Centre users that there will be some changes to the use of the lane pool for Term 4 of the school year.
During Term 4 Lanes 1 and 6 – both the outer lanes of the pool – will be used for teaching children's swim lessons on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 3.15 and 6pm. This is to meet an ever growing demand for swim lessons.
This will impact on lane swimmers and aqua joggers who use the pool during those times. Swimmers/joggers may wish to rearrange their routines to work around the times the pool is in use for lessons if they prefer to use Lane 1 or access the pool via the ramp.
Central Otago District Council Parks and Recreation Manager Mat Begg said the demand for lessons had risen to such a level that staff needed to dedicate Lane 1 to swim lessons for Term 4. "The lane edges are important for optimal delivery of lessons and we felt children's swim lessons needed to take priority over activities during those peak hours. After all, swimming is a life skill. This will be a trial for Term 4. Part-way through the term we will be assessing how this is working for all pool users," said Mr Begg.
