Central Otago is an outdoor ‘playground’ and we are privileged to live, work and play here. Walking and cycling opportunities year-round, to the popular summer pastimes of swimming, boating and water sports, then ice skating, curling, luging and skiing over the winter months, the recreational opportunities on our doorstep are all there.

Central Otago District Council helped facilitate Central Otago’s first Outdoor Recreation Strategy 2012-22, adopted in February 2012. The purpose of the community document is to review outdoor recreation in Central and provide guidance for its future development. You can download a copy to read as linked above.

To find out more about recreational opportunities Council is involved in you can also check out the Pools and Swim School, Tracks & Walkways, Parks & Reserves and Playgrounds sections of this site. Plus you can find more about what to do in Central on the Central Otago NZ website.
