Central Lakes Trust is a charitable trust that grants funds for charitable purposes within the Central Lakes district. The district comprises the area bestowed by its original benefactor; Otago Central Electric Power Trust, throughout parts of both Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes.

The trust is the largest philanthropic trust per capita in the Southern Hemisphere. Its purpose is to ensure it can be available over time to help support charitable projects throughout Central Lakes; to enhance the community and the lives of the people within.

Annually, approximately $7-9 million is granted to community organisations throughout the Trust's funding region in five keys areas of Arts & Culture, Lifelong Learning, Community Recreation, Community Wellbeing and Environment & Heritage.

Since inception in 2000 the Trust has grown its asset base from the $155m to assets totalling $387 million, and granted over $99 million.

The Trust is the proud owner of Pioneer Energy, which comprises approximately 40% of its assets, while the remainder is made up of a diversified portfolio of investments including a range of national and international investments.

Lottery Grants Board and Community Organisation Grants Scheme (COGS)

Lottery grants are available for different types of projects and services, including community, WWI commemorations, environment and heritage, health research, community sector research, individuals with disabilities, outdoor safety, community facilities and significant projects.

The Community Organisation Grants Scheme is a community-driven fund that provides grants to non-profit community organisations that deliver community-based social services.

Otago Community Trust

The Otago Community Trust provides donations across the diverse sectors of arts and culture, heritage, events, environment, education, sport and recreation, community activity and community well-being. Each year the Trust invests between $4-$7 million in communities across Otago. Applications for funding can be made at any time, however applications should generally reach the Trust at least three months prior to the commencement of the project or event.

Rotary

• The aim of the TrustPower Rotary Lend a Hand Foundation is to assist small charitable organisations and individuals by providing funding, mentoring or through the provision of goods/services.
  The Foundation is administered by the Central Otago Lend a Hand Foundation Trust, which is made up of representatives from the Rotary Clubs of Alexandra, Cromwell and Roxburgh.
• Vince Ashworth Education Charitable Trust - is administered by the Rotary Club of Alexandra and provides grants and scholarships to help young people experiencing hardship.

Sport Otago

Sport Otago funding opportunities include:

• the Sporting Chance programme that provides financial assistance to children from disadvantaged circumstances take part in sport
• KiwiSport funding for new initiatives aimed at getting more school aged children involved in organised sport
• Skeggs Foundation funding for elite or aspiring elite athletes and coaches living within the Otago region or representing Otago in sport
• the Halberg Sport Opportunity programme, which aims to ensure that people with a disability receive equal opportunities to participate, enjoy and achieve in their choice of sport.

Otago Science Into Action

Up to $20,000 in funding and scientific expertise is available to help community groups turn their ideas into reality through the Participatory Science Platform funding scheme.

In Otago this scheme is supported by Otago Museum (lead/host institution), Ngai Tahu, University of Otago, Otago Polytechnic and the NZ International Science Festival.

There are two types of funding - seed funding and funding for grassroots driven science projects.

Pub Charity

Pub Charity distribute donations to community organisations across New Zealand through the funds raise by gaming machines in hotels and taverns. Donations from Pub Charity support projects and activities that address a range of subjects such as sport, community groups, health, education, etc.

New Zealand Community Trust

The New Zealand Community Trust's main focus is to provide funds for amateur sports as well as support other important causes such as rescue and lifesaving services. Funds are generally distributed back in to the area in which they were raised. Money comes from Class 4 gaming proceeds and applicants must be an incorporated entity.

The Trusts Community Foundation

The Trusts Community Foundation was established in 2010 and distributes over $11 million to Community Groups. The Foundation's mission is to provide funding for Community groups, charities and Clubs with a focus on Education, Health, Arts & Culture and Sports. The Foundation makes grants to not-for-profit groups registered as an Incorporated Society/Charitable Trust, schools, or to groups affiliated to a regional or national body.

The Southern Trust

The Southern Trust is a proud funding partner of a full range of community groups and charitable causes. To be eligible for funding you need to be a non-profit organisation and active in the areas of community, education, arts and culture or amateur sport.

Bendigo Valley Sports and Charity Foundation
