Alexandra Airport Operational Areas - Public Access Prohibited
A reminder to the public that the operational areas, in particular the sealed and grass runways, at the Alexandra Airport are strictly no public access areas in order to keep public and airport users safe, see red shaded areas on aerial map below.
Unfortunately, there have been two serious near miss incidents with aircraft at the airport in last few weeks involving a mountain biker and a pedestrian crossing active runways.
The Mountain Bikers Of Alexandra group has a Memorandum of Understanding with Council that permits use of a track around the perimeter of the operational areas of the Airport. See map below:
The track is signposted with arrows and other signage. Any other historical tracks, which are within the operational area shown above, are not for public access.
Additional signage will be installed at the airport to warn the public to keep off runways and operational areas. Please pay attention to these signs and respect private property in the hangar areas. Any breaches will be treated as trespass and may lead to prosecution.
If you know of anyone who uses the airport track please pass on the message to stick to permitted track and stay away from operational areas of the airport.
Removing trees, firewood or gravel from anywhere on the airport reserve without Council permission is also strictly prohibited.
