Dunorling Street pump station works

Update Wednesday 29 March 2023
New storage tank installation well underway
If you’ve been down at the Dunorling Street boat ramp lately you may have seen a big crane in action.
The 90-metre crane is being used to install the new storage tank for the Dunorling Street pump station. Sections of the 25 metre-long tank started arriving last Thursday (23 March) and have been assembled below ground, near the Council building in Alexandra. It is a Polyethylene (PE) lined concrete tank, and when welded together, will act as a single water-tight unit. The Central Otago District Council installed a similar tank in the pump station located at the back of Walton Street last year, which was the first of its kind on the South Island.
The Dunorling Street pump station is critical to the Council’s wastewater network. Adding emergency storage provides resilience to the pump station and avoids unnecessary overflow of wastewater to Clutha/Mata-Au. It gives the Council a response time of eight hours in case of a failure at the pump station or Alexandra Wastewater treatment plant downstream.
Work will continue into May. See progress photos below, including photos from when the tank sections arrived last Thursday.

Update Dunorling Street pump station works – Wednesday 22 March 2023
Work is progressing on the project with installation of the storage tank, which will arrive in sections, starting tomorrow (Thursday 23 March).
This means more truck movements onsite for delivering the sections and a 90-tonne digger lifting the sections into place. There will be a traffic stop/go control in place during the activity.
This is a critical pump station on the Council’s wastewater network. Adding emergency storage provides resilience to the pump station and avoids unnecessary overflow of wastewater to Clutha/Mata-Au. The storage tank is 25m long and goes below ground on the western side of the pump station.
Work will go on until mid-May/early June.
Thanks for your patience.

Update February 2023
From next week (from Monday 20 February), we're planning to start the physical works for installing an emergency storage tank in the wastewater pump station located at the end of Dunorling Street near the Council building in Alexandra.
This is a critical pump station on our wastewater network. Adding emergency storage provides resilience to the pump station and avoids unnecessary overflow of wastewater to Clutha/Mata-Au. The storage tank is 25m long and goes below ground on the western side of the pump station.
The proposed work will go on until mid-May/early June. The area will be fenced off (marked in red on map) and detour in place for the access track (marked with blue arrow).
The toilets, boat ramp and barbecue area will still be accessible, and three picnic tables (also marked in blue).
A few small trees in the location needed to be relocated
