Water Restrictions lifted from 16 March 2023
Water Restrictions removed - 16 March 2023
With the water reservoir level back to normal following a power outage earlier this week, as of Thursday 16 March, we will be removing water restrictions for Ranfurly, Naseby, Omakau/Ophir.
The NIWA Drought Index has dropped into the ‘dry’ category, and recent rainfall has seen improved flows in the water sources.
Our water team has inspected the intakes in Ranfurly and they are satisfactory.
A big thank you to the community for their efforts to reduce water use over the past few weeks.
For all communities district wide, keep up the good work and continue to always use water wisely.

WATER RESTRICTIONS UPDATE – Wednesday 8 March 2023
While restrictions have eased in the past two weeks, even with the much-welcomed rain last weekend and cooler temperatures, the river levels are dropping, and the drought index is rising. We are still sitting in the very dry category.
With no significant level of rainfall predicted for the next week or so, we are staying at the same level of Water Restrictions. For the Māniatoto, including Naseby, and for Omakau/Ophir, this means continuing to use water by:
• Operating sprinkler systems between 8pm and 8am
• Using a water can or hand-held hose with a trigger nozzle is allowed at all times.
For everywhere else in the district:
• Water before 8am or after 6pm
• Only water your garden when it needs it
• Avoid watering Paths and driveways
• Fix any leaks.
Thanks for your continuing water conservation efforts over the past few weeks.

WATER RESTRICTIONS UPDATE - Wednesday 22 February 2023 10.45am
CODC thanks the Ranfurly community for your efforts to conserve water over the past few weeks.
With the conservation efforts and the recent rainfall, the water supply for Ranfurly is now in a position that the restrictions can be eased.
Despite the rain we are currently experiencing, the NIWA New Zealand Drought Index has Central Otago sitting in the Extremely Dry category, so it is still important that the whole district is using water carefully. We will also be monitoring the situation over the next few days.
For the Māniatoto, including Naseby and Omakau/Ophir, please keep up the good work to reduce unnecessary water use:
• Operate sprinkler systems between 8pm and 8am
• Using a water can or hand-held hose with a trigger nozzle is allowed at all times
For everywhere else in the district:
• Water before 8am or after 6pm
• Only water your garden when it needs it
• Avoid watering Paths and driveways
• Fix any leaks

WATER CONSERVATION - Update Thursday 16 February - late afternoon
RANFURLY
Ranfurly's BOIL WATER NOTICE has been lifted.
This afternoon we have received confirmation through our water quality testing that there is no further need to boil water.. Although the reservoir level has recovered, we will be monitoring this closely, along with the river level.
Water Restrictions still apply. This means ESSENTIAL USE ONLY, for such things as showering (no longer than four minutes), and only running the washing machine or dish washer on a full load. And still NO GARDEN WATERING at the moment.
ELSEWHERE OUTSIDE RANFURLY
Water Restrictions still elsewhere in the MĀNIATOTO (Patearoa and Naseby) as well as the Omakau/Ophir area.
Water Restrictions mean just that – the urgent need to restrict use and conserve water. Some tips:
- If watering cannot be avoided, only operate sprinkler systems between 8pm and 8am for no more than 30 minutes in one spot
- Keep showers to four minutes or less
- Turn off the tap when brushing teeth
- Only run the washing machine and dishwasher when you have full loads
- Check for leaks around your property.
