As part of the Omakau wastewater treatment plant consent, Central Otago District Council is undertaking an ecological assessment of the Manuherekia River. This includes releasing a florescent red dye into the river to evaluate the treatment plant discharge mixing zone. The dye is non-toxic, biodegradable and safe for the environment.
Dye testing will take place early in the week of20 March 2023, pending weather and river conditions, on the Manuherekia River downstream of the Omakau wastewater treatment plant (see map below). The
red line is the wastewater main going into the wastewater treatment plant, the
green line is the discharge of the treated wastewater into the river.
