Action Required – Existing Building Consents

Central Otago District Council will transition to the Objective Build building consent system in May 2026. As part of this transition, existing building consents and applications will be migrated into the new system.

To support a smooth transition, we are asking customers with current building consents or applications in progress, to review the status of their projects and resolve any outstanding matters where possible.

This is particularly important for projects nearing completion or applications currently under assessment.

If your project has failed inspections, please arrange for the required work to be completed and contact the Building Team to book a re-inspection. Resolving failed inspections before the migration will help ensure your consent transitions smoothly into the new system and avoid unnecessary delays.

If you have received a Request for Further Information (RFI) for a building consent application currently under review, please provide the requested information as soon as possible. Reminder letters are already being sent to affected applicants.

If RFIs remain outstanding for an extended period, applications may be refused under the Building Act 2004. We encourage applicants to contact the Building Team if they require clarification or assistance in responding to the request.

Once the migration to Objective Build is completed, applications with unresolved RFIs or outstanding matters may need to be managed manually, which may require additional time and resources to process.

By resolving outstanding inspections and responding to RFIs now, you can help ensure a smoother transition, faster processing, reduced delays, and a more efficient service for everyone involved.
