Tourism Central Otago's Digital Media Marketing officer Anthony (Antz) Longman is a finalist in the 2019 YoungTEC Awards.
YoungTEC, the Young Tourism Export Council of New Zealand, is an organisation of young tourism professionals under the age of 36 years old who are members of Tourism Export Council companies. YoungTEC announced the finalists today for its annual Excellence and Go with Tourism Rising Star awards. With a record breaking year of entries, these awards recognise the outstanding efforts and contribution of YoungTEC members to the development of New Zealand's tourism industry.
The announcement from TEC said Anthony noted amongst his outstanding achievements the Eat.Taste.Central event, now in its third successful year, which he has grown; his involvement with the responsible camping programme and the recent community 'Tidy the Trails' event. It also recognised that outside of his work he shows great motivation in the adventure world, including his role as race director for one of the most challenging marathons in Australasia – the Shotover Moonlight Mountain Marathon - and his involvement with various boards and committees including the Mountain Bikers of Alexandra, Central Otago Whitewater and NZ Freestyle Kayak Association.
Dylan Rushbrook, General Manager of Tourism Central Otago, said the TCO team and the wider Central Otago District Council team were delighted to see Antz's name appear as one of the three finalists in the YoungTEC Excellence category.
"This is wonderful recognition of someone who every day goes over and above to support the tourism industry and wider communities of Central Otago. Antz has a clear passion for helping others understand what a magical place Central Otago is, and through much of his community work has had a direct impact on enhancing that magic."
The Excellence award winner receives a two-week professional development placement in one of Tourism New Zealand's international offices, flights and accommodation sponsored by Air New Zealand and Accor Hotels, and two weeks room only accommodation courtesy of the Tourism Export Council.
The winners will be announced at the TECNZ symposium in Auckland on 4 December.
