Council established the cadet positions two years ago. They are aimed specifically at high school leavers who live in the Central Otago district.
Are you a local teen who has finished high school or is finishing this year? Perhaps you don't want to head away to Uni or Tech, or to travel just yet. This could be the opportunity for you!
These placements are for two years and offer a variety of opportunities within Council. The idea is you'd spend two to three month placements with various teams (like pools, libraries, customer services, infrastructure, etc) so you can sample the different careers local government has to offer. There will be a small training budget available so if you show a special interest in one career path Council may assist with some course costs or specific training that would be of benefit.
Over the two-year period as a cadet you will experience the diversity that councils have to offer, plus develop some transferrable skills applicable to many employment opportunities. Plus you'll be earning a wage and learning associated life skills.
Applications are now being taken. We want you to make a video (not more than 90 seconds) telling us who you are, what you like doing and why you would like to work for Council. Be creative and remember to include a contact phone number and email.
Email your video link (eg could be Google Docs, YouTube or Facebook link) to Tracye Stedman at firstname.lastname@example.org. We need to receive it by 12 noon on Wednesday 31 October 2018.
