The Cromwell Community Board today gave the green light to the next phase of the Cromwell Masterplan programme.

The Board agreed on the shortlist of options that will be put before the Cromwell community for feedback in October and November.

The options relate to the Cromwell Masterplan work streams — creating a spatial framework to appropriately accommodate growth; the town centre, the Cromwell Memorial Hall and civic facilities.

The shortlist of options is based on community feedback gathered during the initial engagement in June and July, and on evidence gathered by the Masterplan team.

"We're looking forward to asking the community what it thinks of these options in October and November. It is the Cromwell community's feedback that will guide how the Masterplan develops from here," said CODC Executive Manager Planning and Environment Louise van der Voort.

Community feedback on the options will be sought through channels that include public information sessions, a survey and through social media.

"Please get ready to have your say about the future of the Cromwell Basin in the next couple of months. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to think about what you want for your place and its future," Cromwell Community Board Chair Neil Gillespie said.

________

Background: In March this year the Cromwell Community Board agreed to develop a Masterplan to address Cromwell's future growth pressures and to shape the form and function of development over the next 30 years.

The Masterplan aims to set a clear direction for Cromwell's future growth. It is focused on growing the town in a balanced manner, improving the town's form and function, and future-proofing civic facilities and infrastructure.

Four key projects are being explored:

  1. a spatial framework to guide District Plan zoning, sequencing of how development should proceed, and strategic planning of infrastructure and projects
  2. the purpose, form and function of Cromwell's town centre and the Cromwell Heritage Precinct
  3. a review of the civic facilities to determine if they function and are sized appropriately
  4. determining the right location, form and function of the Cromwell Memorial Hall.

More information is available on the CODC website's Cromwell Eye to the Future Masterplan section.
