Central Otago District Council this month agreed on a work programme and confirmed funding to progress the District Plan Review process.
Twelve months ago the Council resolved to delay the Central Otago District Plan Review while National Planning Standards (NPS) were being developed, which would provide the national 'template' for district plans. Council agreed that in the interim, a prioity would be accommodating appropriate growth by initiating plan changes to the Operative District Plan as necessary.
With the publication of the NPS in April this year, the District Plan Review can now progress.
Council agreed at its 14 August meeting to the following work programme to be implemented over the next four months:
- Engage consultants to progress preparation of plan changes to give effect to Cromwell Masterplan Stage 1 – Spatial Plan, which was adopted by the Cromwell Community Board in June and will result in plan changes to the operative District Plan and be carried into the District Plan Review;
- Scope a Masterplan / Spatial Plan exercise for the Alexandra - Clyde area to accommodate growth;
- Continue participating in policy development around protection of indigenous biodiversity;
- Develop a project plan for the review of the district plan to meet National Planning Standards.
