16 April 2014

A public meeting will be held on Monday 28 April at the Alexandra Community Centre to gather community feedback on legal highs.

Central Otago Mayor Tony Lepper said he was keen to build on recent momentum created by increased media coverage on the issue of psychoactive substances, and get local groups and concerned citizens together to discuss how to deal with this issue as a community.

The Mayor will host the meeting, which will include reports from Police and health agencies, youth, affected families and concerned citizens. There would also be ample opportunity to "open it up to the floor" for other groups and individuals to have their say on the subject and feed ideas into a draft Local Approved Products Policy for Central Otago, Mr Lepper said.

"I look forward to a good turn out and our Council using the information to speedily create a policy that suits our community's needs."

The meeting at the Alexandra Community Centre in Skird Street Alexandra starts at 7.30pm on Monday 28 April.
