Central Otago Mayor Tim Cadogan is pleased to announce the appointment of Sanchia Jacobs to the position of Chief Executive Officer for the Central Otago District Council.
Mayor Cadogan says the standard of applicants for the position was extremely high.
"It is a pleasure to announce Sanchia's appointment to this role. She comes to Central with literally a world of experience. Sanchia has worked in both central and local government. She was a New Zealand diplomat and trade negotiator prior to taking up a series of leadership positions at Auckland Council, where she is leaving a senior role as Executive Officer Operations. She has a strong reputation of leading high-performing teams and building effective relationships at all levels.
"This very impressive CV to one side though, it was her passion to return home to Central Otago that impressed Councillors the most. Ms Jacobs spent part of her childhood here and still has a lot of family in the district. These strong familial links meant she was able to articulate a very clear sense of what Central is to those lucky enough to live here, as well as those who visit from the rest of the country and the world."
Sanchia says she is looking forward to bringing her experience home to deliver great outcomes for Central, being a part of the CODC team, and becoming an active member of the Central Otago community.
"I have strong family connections across the region and I'm delighted and honoured to have been appointed to the role," says Sanchia.
"Central Otago has a great lifestyle and is one of the most phenomenal parts of New Zealand. This, along with the fantastic team at CODC who are already doing great things for the community, makes this a really exciting opportunity. I look forward to leading a council that's committed to its communities and getting things done."
Mayor Cadogan said the decision to offer the role to Sanchia is indicative of a Council that is both outward looking and future focused as well as one that will continue to remain highly customer and people focused at the same time.
Sanchia will take up her position at CODC on 12 February 2018, replacing Leanne Mash who ends her role with the Council today, Thursday 14 December 2017.
