Council is now inviting community feedback on its Initial Proposal.

The Local Electoral Act 2001 requires that Council conduct a review of the membership of the Council and Community Boards and how they are elected at least once every six years. The last review was conducted in 2012 so one is required this year in preparation for the local government 2019 Triennial Election.

The review has been conducted and Council proposes the current representation arrangement for the Central Otago district should be retained with three exceptions. The exceptions are:

  • Amalgamating the Alexandra and Earnscleugh/Manuherikia Wards to create the Vincent Ward
  • Increasing the number of councillors elected by the electors of the Cromwell Ward from 3 to 4
  • Reducing the number of elected members on the Vincent Community Board from 5 to 4

The full Initial Proposal document is available here on Council's website and at all Council service centres.

Submissions can be made online at. For those without online access hard copy forms are available on request from service centres or by phoning (03) 440 0056.

Submission close on Tuesday 7 August 2018.
