Roxburgh Flooding Event - Update 6

Roading Update  3.30pm

SH8 remains closed to through traffic at Millers Flat and Lake Roxburgh Village. There is a detour in place across the Millers Flat Bridge, up Teviot Road and over the Roxburgh Dam. Drivers are asked to keep their speeds down on the Teviot Road as it’s not a highway.

People travelling to and from Central Otago are being asked to take SH85 or SH6.

Scotland Street through Roxburgh remains closed at Jedburgh Street and at the end of Quail Haven. There is no through-route on SH8 between the north and south ends of Roxburgh.

These closures will be reviewed by Central Otago District Council, NZTA and partners on Friday at noon to assess progress and a further announcement will be made following that meeting for arrangements over the weekend.

Residents are being asked to limit travel in and around Roxburgh. This is important to allow contractors the best possible conditions working through restoring water and wastewater (toilets) to the town, clearing debris from the floods and restoring road access. Plus we want to keep the dust down.

There is a large number of trucks and heavy machinery about so people are advised to take care and avoid busy work sites.
