Central Otago District Council will be opening up its Council workshop sessions to media and the public from later next month.
Central Otago Mayor Tony Lepper said CODC introduced workshops this year "primarily to bring our six new councillors up to speed with background information that they will need when decisions are made".
"It is also a way of working through topics and issues in bite size pieces. It is impossible to squeeze that amount of material into a Council meeting."
There may still be some items of workshops that will be discussed in closed session, as happens already with formal meetings, in order to facilitate free and frank discussion, and to protect individuals' privacy and commercial sensitivity, Mr Lepper said.
The next Council workshop session is scheduled for Friday 30 April. These workshop sessions will be advertised along with Council's meetings in the weekly CODC Noticeboard in the Central Otago News as well as on Council's website.
