With one week of the four-week nomination period remaining for the 2019 triennial elections, the Central Otago District Council Electoral Officer Anthony Morton is urging those intending to stand to not leave submitting their nominations until the last day.
"Candidates need to be nominated by two electors within the area they want to stand for and sometimes incorrect nominator details are supplied. If their nomination isn't received early enough and is incorrect that may not leave enough time for the candidate to get that corrected. Overall, the volume of nominations is tracking as expected," Mr Morton said.
To stand candidates must be over 18, a New Zealand citizen, enrolled as a parliamentary elector and pay a $200 deposit. An information handbook and nomination forms are available from the council website or from the local council office, or by phoning the election helpline number 0800 666 941.
The nomination period closes at midday on Friday 16 August 2019. Nominations can be lodged at any of the council service centres or emailed through to email@example.com. A list of the confirmed candidates will be advertised as soon as possible following the close of nominations.
