A new digital shopfront for Central Otago
14 July 2020
Tourism Central Otago and Central Otago District Council's Community and Economic Development team this week launched a complete refresh of the centralotagonz.com website. The new site brings together into one place the stories of Central Otago, its communities, people and experiences in a way that inspires people to value all that is special about the region.
A feature of the site is the shift to a more relaxed way of communicating with its audience. It brings to life the vision of a single digital shopfront for the region which is a high priority project identified in Central Otago's tourism strategy.
"Our aim in the rebuild was to provide inspiring and useful content for visitors, businesses and local communities under the umbrella of our regional identity 'Central Otago - A World of Difference'," said project lead Anthony (Antz) Longman.
"We have worked closely with developers TimeZone One on the website design and functionality. We can now showcase user generated social content through embedded galleries, and business listings will integrate with Tourism New Zealand's newzealand.com platform, Google Places and Trip Advisor.
As with all projects of this scale, the launch of the site is just the beginning - it is now time for the continual improvement to begin," said Antz.
"To think that Antz and the team managed to maintain progress on this significant project, while also assisting with CODC's civil defence response duties for COVID-19 is something I am immensely proud of," said Dylan Rushbrook, Tourism Central Otago General Manager.
"The project was underway and at a critical stage of the build when we entered lockdown back in March. In the weeks and months since, there has been a huge team effort put in to presenting what you see today - in fact when I view the site now - I totally get the lead quote of 'Feel totally insignificant. In the best possible way'.
"We are excited to have officially gone live. However now, more than ever before, the real work begins as we continue to tell the stories to inspire people to live, work and play here."
