Experienced marketing exec to promote Otago trails
Passionate and highly skilled destination marketer Sanae Herd has recently stepped into the role of Trails Marketing Executive based within the Tourism Central Otago team. Sanae most recently spent eight years promoting Dunedin and managing the Dunedin Brand. She is excited to have a new challenge where she will work with multiple partners to effectively promote and enhance the region as a premier trails’ destination.
The role, previously held by Fiona Love, was established in 2020 and reports to a governance group with representation from three RTOs, local trails trusts and operators’ groups. Sanae will oversee the coordination of messaging and trail-related promotions, with the goal being to grow visitation where there is availability and to extend off-peak travel and length of stay.
Tourism Central Otago General Manager Dylan Rushbrook said the team were excited to welcome Sanae.
“We are thrilled to have someone with Sanae’s exceptional destination marketing experience come on board and to have her expertise focussed on progressing a cohesive marketing approach for the diverse range of trail experiences from Central Otago right across to Dunedin.
While we were sad to farewell Fiona, who returned to Haka tours to take up a new marketing role, Sanae is ready to hit the ground running. She is already familiar with the wider region, its experiences and has the contacts to get traction quickly.”
“I really enjoy challenging people’s perceptions about places and love the opportunity this new role will bring to share and uncover hidden gems,” said Sanae. “And best of all I get to spend more time in Central Otago where I can explore more of its food and wine delights, play my new hobby - golf, try out local trails and connect with warm and welcoming communities.”
