Picking winners…Central Otago District Council’s
Welcoming Communities and Business South, which partnered in a new initiative
to foster future business leaders, are proud to recognise the contribution of
newcomers in our community. Emily Walters (centre) is the first Newcomer
Leadership Scholarship recipient. Originally from Canada, Emily has been in New
Zealand three years. She has a background in financial planning and is the
owner of EzyConsents in Cromwell. The scholarship will allow Emily to attend
the Business South Central Otago Leadership Academy held in May and June. The
leadership academy will help Emily network with other business leaders and
provide an opportunity to learn from mentors. This is one of many initiatives
the Welcoming Communities programme, champions to help roll out the welcome mat
to newcomers in the Central Otago district. Pictured with Emily are Business
South Director of Workforce and Business Development Grant Harrex and Welcoming
Communities officer Deborah Beange.
