Architect appointed for Roxburgh Entertainment Centre concept design

The Roxburgh Entertainment Centre redevelopment has reached its first major milestone, with Athfield Architects appointed to lead the concept design phase.

Athfield Architects were selected following a competitive tender process that drew 20 submissions. Four firms were shortlisted and invited to present to an evaluation panel in May. Athfield Architects stood out for their design-led approach, practical methodology and considered community engagement strategy.

John McIntyre, Principal at Athfield Architects, said the firm was honoured to be selected and are looking forward to working with the Teviot Valley community.

"The Roxburgh Entertainment Centre matters to this community – and that's exactly why we want to get the design right,” he said.

“Our focus will be on creating a flexible, welcoming space that reflects what local people actually need and that works within budget."

Curtis Pannett, chair of the Roxburgh Entertainment Centre Project Steering Group, said getting this decision right was important.

“From the start, we’ve wanted this to be a facility that genuinely reflects what the Teviot Valley needs,” he said.

“We're confident Athfield Architects gets that, and we're looking forward to working with them through the design process."

The discovery phase of the concept design will get underway shortly, including design investigations, community engagement, and development of options. Community members will have the opportunity to share their views on what the new centre should look like.
