The first visible signs of change at the Bannockburn Industrial Subdivision are expected later this month, with fencing to go up ahead of tree felling. The site on the edge of Cromwell has been secured by infrastructure and construction company Fulton Hogan.
Beginning 24 August, harvest contractor IFS Growth will be on site for approximately three weeks. Southern Mulching will then follow to de-stump and tidy the site, adding a further three weeks to the programme.
The work marks the beginning of a significant new chapter for the Bannockburn Industrial Subdivision project, designed to support the region's long-term economic growth. The site was identified for development in the Long-term Plan as part of Central Otago District Council's strategy to grow Cromwell's industrial land supply and generate commercial returns for the Cromwell community.
Strong early interest in the subdivision signals business confidence in Cromwell's future. The project is expected to deliver increased industrial land supply and financial returns from Cromwell endowment land for the local community.
CEO Peter Kelly says securing Fulton Hogan as an early purchaser is an encouraging start.
"We know Fulton Hogan well – they're active across our district and understand this region. Having them as our first investor in the Bannockburn subdivision feels like a natural fit, and we're looking forward to seeing what they develop here."
Anna Sinclair, Regional Manager - Central Otago at Fulton Hogan Ltd, says this is a strategic purchase for Fulton Hogan.
“It’s an important step in future-proofing our operations in Central Otago,” she says. “Securing land in the Bannockburn Industrial Subdivision gives us the flexibility and confidence to plan for our long-term needs in a region that continues to grow. We’re pleased to be part of this development and to support the wider investment in Cromwell’s future.”
The Bannockburn Industrial Subdivision is the beginning of a wider development, with further lots to follow.
