KNZB New World/Four Square Clean Up Week, 17th - 24th September 2010Don’t Let Rubbish Represent Us! We’ll be sprucing up Aotearoa from top to bottom and it doesn’t matter if you’re by yourself, part of a school, an environmentally conscious business or a bunch of extended family and friends – no job too big or small! Whether it is picking up rubbish in parks, sports fields, streets, making your school grounds litter free, cleaning out a local stream, scrubbing off some graffiti, mural painting …. there are hundreds of ways you can help. The Central Otago District Council and Keep Alexandra Clyde Beautiful Group are keen to help show that the people of Central Otago take pride in their community. So start planning how you and your team can make a difference. Decide on a date and an area to clean up. The Clean Up is not restricted to one week – if your group is able to do a Clean Up on a date before or after that week we would still like you to be involved. Then go to www.knzb.org.nz to get all the information you need to create a Clean Up Event or join one. Once you’ve registered your Clean Up Event you will be sent everything you need to carry out your Clean Up (bags, gloves, certificates for participants and an evaluation form) and you can download the Events Guide with heaps of other information. If you don’t have access to the internet or you would like any other help in registering your group – please don’t hesitate to contact Sue O’Brien on gone.fishing@paradise.net.nz or phone 03 4486126 or 021 2449379. Sue can also help if your group needs help identifying an area that needs cleaning up. The Central Otago District Council are also able to provide a Transfer Station chit, enabling you to drop off for free any refuse that can’t be recycled. To request a refuse transfer chit, please contact Amy Nicolson on amy.nicolson@codc.govt.nz or 03 440 0623. Thank you for helping to Keep New Zealand Beautiful! SPARC Rural Travel Fund 2010/11The Central Otago District Council has received a grant of $9,500.00 to distribute to local junior sporting clubs and organisations, to assist with travel to and from regular local competition. The Rural Travel Fund has been developed in response to concerns about the lack of participation in sport by young people living in rural communities. It was agreed by Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC), in consultation with territorial authorities, that a rural travel fund would be provided during 2010/11 and be targeted at young people aged between 5-19 years. Applications are now being called for funding assistance with travel costs to regular local sporting competition. Application forms can be requested from your nearest Council Service Centre. For further information, visit the SPARC website, www.sparc.org.nz, or contact: Judith Whyte Applications close at 4:00 pm on Friday, 22 October 2010. | Blossom Festival Liquor BanClick here for more information Boil Water Notice - Omakau and NasebyDue to the snow melt and heavy rain the river is very high and dirty.
