The Alexandra Watermains Renewal is continuing on Enterprise Street in Alexandra and will soon begin at the other key site of the project on Bridge Hill at Earnscleugh Road.
Pipe installation on Enterprise St past Dunstan High School has been underway since 22 July. This is the main water source for schools and local early childcare facilities in the vicinity.
The 70-year-old pipeline has been impacted by Alexandra’s softer water supply from Lake Dunstan, leading to issues such as discoloured water.
Site establishment has begun for the Bridge Hill/ Earnscleugh Road component of the watermains renewal to replace 100-year-old pipes that originate from when Aronui Dam supplied the town’s water. Work will begin on Monday 15 September and continue through to December.
By addressing these critical infrastructure challenges, the Council aims to ensure a more reliable water supply for residents and future-proof Alexandra’s water network, CODC Capital Projects Manager Patrick Keenan said.
Pipeline construction on Bridge Hill will likely require extensive rock breaking, creating reasonable levels of noise and vibration. The upgrade will cause significant disruption to road users in the area and require detours.
There will be a detour on the east bound lane of Earnscleugh Road between State Highway 8 and Aronui Road for the duration of this section of pipe installation for light vehicles.
Heavy vehicles must detour via Conroys Road. See map for affected routes.
