New Council sworn in - new Deputy Mayor appointed
Today the Central Otago District Council swore in its members for the next triennium.
This included the swearing in of Mayor Tamah Alley, who had been serving in the role over the past year after being selected by her fellow councillors to fill the vacated role.
A new Central Otago Deputy Mayor, Tracy Paterson, was sworn in. Mayor Alley selected Cr Tracy Paterson as her deputy, as allowed for in the Local Government Act.
Mayor Alley highlighted Deputy Mayor Paterson's many community hats, her commitment to the agricultural sector, and her capacity to carry out the time required as substantial factors in the decision.
"The Deputy Mayor plays a huge supporting role for the mayor, and I know Tracy's legal, farming and business background will be a huge asset in serving the people of this district, alongside supporting me."
Returning members in Vincent Ward are Mrs Paterson and Martin McPherson. A new face at the table is Nathan McLean, with a by-election to be held to replace Dave McKenzie.
In the Cromwell Ward, Cheryl Laws and Sarah Browne returned to the table, joined by Charlie Sanders and former Cromwell Community Board member Bob Scott.
In the Maniototo Ward Stu Duncan returned, and in the Teviot Valley Ward, former Teviot Valley Community Board member Curtis Pannett took his seat at the Council table.
Central Otago District Council Chief Executive said he was delighted to be welcoming a new Council.
"I look forward to working with them and through all the challenges ahead."
The community board members for Vincent, Cromwell, Maniototo and Teviot will be sworn in at the inaugural meetings over the next 10 days.
For the Vincent Community Board, these will be new members Karla Sanders and Jim Moffit with Jayden Cromb and Tony Hammington returning.
For the Cromwell Community Board, Anna Harrison and Wally Sanford return, with new members Rebecca Anderson and Mike Casey also to be sworn in.
For Maniototo Community Board, Duncan Helm, Becky McAuley and Mark Harris return, joined by new member Logan Dowling.
For Teviot Valley Community Board, new members included Hayden Smith and Becky Slade, with Gill Booth and Mark Jessop returning.
