Upgrades underway at Millers Flat Recreation Reserve
The Millers Flat Recreation Reserve is getting a much-needed upgrade, thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding between Central Otago District Council and local community group Teviot Prospects Inc.
The group has secured over $600,000 in funding to transform the reserve with two new hard surface courts, a pump track, an enhanced playground, and a new picnic area.
Work kicks off this week, following a recent community working bee where volunteers removed the old tennis court fence.
The project is expected to wrap up in March 2026, with a grand opening celebration planned for 29 March.
Council's Parks and Recreation Manager Gordon Bailey said it's exciting to see the community's vision becoming reality.
"The Millers Flat community, through Teviot Prospects Inc, has shown incredible drive to make this happen. It's a great example of what can be achieved when local passion and Council support come together," Mr Bailey said.
"Once complete, this will be a fantastic space for people of all ages to connect, play and be active."
