Public Meeting Planned as Council Considers Exploring Alternative Sites for the Roxburgh Entertainment Centre - Roxburgh Golf Club on Thursday 11 December at 7pm
The Teviot Valley Community Board has agreed to progress work on investigating potential alternative sites for the Roxburgh Entertainment Centre rebuild.
At its meeting this week, the community board supported a recommendation to council for the project steering group to investigate other possible locations in addition to the existing site. “The investigation will assess potential benefits, costs, timelines, geotechnical suitability, demolition requirements, property options, and community views. A community survey will also form part of the process,” CODC Project Manager, Tara Bates said.
The steering group considers the rebuild a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a multi-purpose, future-focused facility that supports community wellbeing and helps revitalise Roxburgh’s town centre. As part of this work, the steering group believes it is important to assess whether the current site remains the most suitable location for a modern, future-ready facility.
“A full report on the investigation findings will be presented to the community board and council in March 2026, enabling a decision on whether the project scope should change,” Ms Bates said.
“If the recommendation is approved by council at its meeting on 27 November, the investigation phase is expected to take around four months and may cost between $20,000 to $40,000, funded from the insurance settlement for the original building.”
To ensure the community is well informed and has the opportunity to share its views, a public meeting will be held at the Roxburgh Golf Club on Thursday 11 December at 7pm.
The meeting will update the community on decisions and next steps, outline the design and construction process along with indicative timelines for the current site and any alternative options, and provide an opportunity for residents to share ideas, expectations, and questions about the rebuild and possible site options.
