Work to revitalise the Cromwell waterfront is progressing, with the next phase beginning in early December and involving the removal of selected trees along the Kawarau Arm of Lake Dunstan, near the new Cromwell Memorial Hall and Events Centre.
The tree removal supports the broader vision to better connect the Kawarau Arm with the Cromwell township. Clearing these trees will open up sightlines and enhance the visual and physical link between the waterfront and community facilities. Future landscaping will enhance the lawned area in front of the new facility, creating an inviting space for people to enjoy the waterfront.
This work is part of the wider Cromwell waterfront revitalisation and complements the Contact Energy Kawarau Arm Community Project. Central Otago District Council (CODC) is in ongoing communication with Contact Energy to ensure both projects align and contribute to a shared vision of a vibrant, accessible waterfront for the community. Work has started today, Monday 1 December, and will take approximately three days to complete. To ensure public safety while the work is underway, the riverside track will be temporarily closed, with a clearly signed detour in place.
