Water Infrastructure Boost for Bannockburn
Central Otago District Council (CODC) is moving ahead with two significant infrastructure projects in Bannockburn to strengthen the community’s long-term water security.
Contracts have been awarded for the construction of a new water main and a second reservoir. Together, these projects will increase water capacity, support ongoing development, and improve the resilience of the local water supply.
The upgrade is split into two key workstreams:
- Water Main Capacity Upgrade: A new, larger capacity water main will be installed from the northern side of the Bannockburn Bridge to the Hall Road reservoir site.
Contractor: South Roads
- Reservoir Expansion: Construction of a new 500m³ bolted steel reservoir at the Hall Road site. Operating alongside the existing reservoir, this will double storage capacity and improve system efficiency.
Contractor: Reliant Solutions
Patrick Keenan, CODC Capital Project Programme Manager, says the upgrades are a vital step for the community.
"This is a proactive investment that secures Bannockburn’s water future," says Mr Keenan. "By expanding both our storage and delivery capacity, we are ensuring a reliable water supply for the community as it continues to grow."
Work is scheduled to begin this month (January 2026), with completion targeted for mid-2026. While some temporary disruption is expected during construction, Council will keep residents informed and provide advance notice of any traffic management measures or service impacts as work progresses.
