A welcome worth celebrating in Central Otago
A welcome we can all be part of
This is something for Central Otago to feel proud of and something everyone can help bring to life. Whether you’ve lived here for decades or have only recently arrived yourself, you can help the next newcomer feel welcome.
When you meet someone new to the area, show them the ‘New to Central?’ button on the Central App or point them towards the welcome guide on the Central Otago NZ website. A quick conversation could help them discover a service they need, a group to join or a way to get involved. When newcomers feel welcome, they connect with this place and its people, and our regional identity grows stronger for it.
Our new flyer takes that welcome out into the community and points people to the information online. It features real newcomers who are making their lives in Central Otago, so others can see themselves in the message: this is a place where you can belong.
Local businesses, schools, healthcare providers and community spaces can play a part too. Hand a flyer to someone who is settling in or display one on a noticeboard. It’s a small gesture with a clear message: our community cares.
The Central App’s decade and Welcoming Communities’ five years show what we can achieve by working together: a region that’s easier to navigate and more welcoming. Have a look at the resources, pass them on and help make Central Otago a place where newcomers feel at home.
