Scrap Metal
Council allows scrap metal to be taken from scrap metal piles, provided it is able to be done in a safe manner. In order to manage health and safety risks please phone the Transfer Station Operations Manager on weekdays between 9am and 5pm on 027 256 8136 to log the details of what you want to take. The Operations Manager will arrange a time to meet you on site to retrieve what you are after, provided it can be reached safely. Council fully supports the reuse of scrap metals using the correct procedures.
Fridges, freezers and air-conditioning unit charges at all transfer stations
As of 10 October 2022 there will be a disposal charge for fridges, freezers and air-conditioning units at all transfer stations. These appliances contain hydrofluorocarbons and other refrigerant gases, which are highly dangerous to people and the environment. These gases must be dealt with by a professional, so these costs have passed on.
