As part of our commitment to reliable service and accurate water usage readings, we will be replacing water meters in the region. The current meters are nearing the end of their life and may not always provide accurate readings.
When: This will be happening from July 2025 - October 2026.
Temporary Water Shutoff: Up to 10 minutes during installation.
What You Need to Do: Please make sure we can access your water meter as usual. No other action is required!

Will turning water off cause any issues?

What does this work involve?
Work involves the replacement of the meter unit inside the toby or the blue water box at the front of your property, this is a simple process unscrewing the old meter and then fitting the new meter.
Why do the meters need to be replaced?
Water meters are replaced as a part of routine maintenance as they near the end of their intended useful life. This insures continued reliable and accurate water usage readings.
What if I am using water at the time of the meter being turned off?
When the operator finds a meter is spinning (i.e. water is being used) on arrival, they will knock and speak with the customer before proceeding. This eliminates the risk of interrupting someone’s shower!
How much will this cost?
This project is part ongoing operational costs and there is no charge to the ratepayer for this upgrade. If your meter has been reading inaccurately, you may find your next bill is a little higher than usual.
Will it affect my appliances?

What is the total cost to replace the 8,143 meters (units and their installation included)?
This was a budgeted expense and amounts to approximately $1 million. This cost includes the replacement of the non-testable backflow preventer assembly, which is part of the manifold connection that provides added protection of the water supply.
How old are the meters approximately and when do they need replaced again?
The expected life of the meter depends on a number of factors, including meter type, throughput and water quality. Typically, these domestic meters reach their end of life at approximately 10 years or 2,000m3 throughput. Many of these meters have either exceeded or are approaching the 10-year age threshold or the 2,000m³ throughput limit.
Have there been many issues with the old meters?
Operational meter replacements is an ongoing process. When meters are found to be not recording throughput they are replaced on an ongoing basis. This process is separate from the programmed meter renewal programme which considers expected life, throughput, operational issues and programmed to ensure accurate demand measurement, reducing the possibility of unbilled water use and maintaining the efficiency of the water supply system.
