Street Cleaning

The Council works to keep our district clean and safe by regularly clearing roads of litter and debris. If you see litter, glass, dead animals, or other hazards on the road, please get in touch.

Kerb and Channel

Kerb and channel systems guide stormwater into drains such as sumps and catch pits. They also mark the road edge and improve overall appearance. Residential streets are cleaned in spring and autumn using a sucker truck. Commercial areas are cleaned more frequently.

Sumps and Catch Pits

All stormwater sumps are inspected annually. Those needing attention are cleaned with a sucker truck.

In some areas, stormwater drains into soakpits instead of pipes. During heavy rain, soakpits may not drain immediately, but the water should clear within a few hours. If water doesn’t drain, even during light rain, it may indicate a blockage.

Flooding

Report any road flooding to the Council, especially if it threatens private property or traffic safety. Ongoing or recurring flooding issues will be investigated.

Autumn Leaf Fall

Leaf fall typically occurs from April to July. While leaves don't damage roads, they can block drains and cause flooding. We aim to schedule sweepers to remove leaves before problems occur.

If you are physically fit and able to clear the leaves from any drain outside your property, it may help to reduce the risk of flooding.
