State Highway Roads
The New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is responsible for the maintenance of State Highways across the district. This includes streetlighting, signs, surfacing, drainage, line-marking etc.
In urban environments with a speed limit below 70km, the Council is responsible for some amenities behind the kerb, such as footpath maintenance, landscaping and litter control. Streetlights in urban areas remain the responsibility of NZTA.
